LISD Literacy Partners help students achieve at-level reading through one-on-one reading sessions with a child.  Local research shows that children are four times more likely to drop out of school if they are not reading at level by 3rd grade. Help the Literacy Partners program achieve this goal for our students by reading with a child. for more information.
The "Parents as Teachers" Program equips parents with skills to be teachers at home. PAT instructors work with parents and children from birth to age four, to nurture school readiness. PAT also provides center-based activities like family playgroups, baby/toddler sing & sign, parent workshops and preschool classes.  Volunteers can support quarterly Family Event Nights like Trunk-or-Treat, Winter Party or Family Olympics.
The LISD Science Materials Center creates and maintains science kits that allow every elementary student to experience science in a hands-on, minds-on way. Volunteers can help with SMC kit building and refurbishing. If interested, contact Brenda Howard at 512-570-0277.
